heatherinthailand: A few years ago, a very dear friend gave me an Oxfam calendar for a Christmas present. Printed on the back of the calendar were these words: "Be moved by the state of the world, outspoken about what's unfair, and excited about making a difference." The funny thing is that my friend had not noticed this when she bought it, as she could not have found anything that more neatly sums up my own approach to life if she had tried. For a number of years I have supported the cause of people who find themselves marginalised and disempowered in society, such as refugees and the homeless, by volunteering with various organisations. By profession I am a primary school teacher, and I have decided that it is time for me to make a difference in a new way, by offering my skills as a volunteer with VSO. Definitely something to feel excited about!
